Semester Hours: Three
This course is one of the focal courses of the Educational Administration certification program in that it provides an important internship component and is the terminal course of the student’s secondary administration program.  Course objectives include, but are not limited to, the  examination of traditional and contemporary leadership practices for the aspiring school leaders, to understand how to build positive relationships with the school personnel, the community, and the diverse publics served by school districts, to assist the students in the successful completion of their culminating internship and the action research requirement if it has not been completed prior to enrolling in Capstone, and to help the student prepare for the state assessments.  The candidate will complete required and elective internship hours from the five leadership domains: Visionary, Instructional, Managerial, Relational, and Innovative.  The student will meet with the intern supervisor to determine how many clock hours will be needed to complete the 300 hours required by DESE.  Many of the hours may have been completed in other courses and through prior leadership experiences i.e. summer school director, administrative intern, lead teacher who serves as administrator when principal is gone, etc.  When the student has already received certification for elementary principal (K-8), this course may be taken as a directed study.
