All candidates for Missouri State Teacher Certification must be formally admitted into the Missouri Baptist University Teacher Education program in the School of Education. No student will be allowed to student teach unless he or she has been formally admitted into the Teacher Education program prior to applying to student teach.
General Education Requirements for BME
Bachelor of Music Education
Programs within the School of Teacher Education are subject to change as DESE alters their requirements. Students must regularly meet with their advisor to remain on track for graduation and to meet certification requirements.

Music Major Core
All persons majoring in any music field must complete the following core:
Required Music Theory (MUTH) Courses
Note(s)
* Students who pass the theory placement test are not required to take this course.
† Education students must complete Content Area courses with a grade of C or better (or CR)
REQUIRED MUSIC HISTORY AND LITERATURE (MUHL) COURSES
REQUIRED MUSIC EDUCATION (MUED) COURSE
REQUIRED MUSIC RECITAL ATTENDANCE (MURA) COURSES
8 semesters of credit required (7 semesters for Music Education):

*One performance area must be voice and the other an instrument.
**Voice credit may be Class Voice, Private Voice, or a combination of both.
***Advanced piano students may take proficiency exam for up to four semesters of credit. Piano credit may be Class Piano, Private Piano, or a combination of both.
****The student may take courses listed as Small Ensemble to complete this requirement.

- At least six hours of major and three hours of minor must be earned at Missouri Baptist University
- A grade of D is not acceptable in courses taken to fulfill the requirements for a major or minor
- If a substitution has been made, attach a copy of the signed approval and indicate the course number and title following the catalog requirement. Please include the date of the substitution.
Requirements for degree conferral:

At least 24 of the last 32 hours taken at Missouri Baptist University
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale is required for degree conferral. Professional Education GPA and Content GPA must each be 3.000 or better for degree conferral and certification. Students must meet all requirements for certification before this degree will be conferred.
