All students who wish to minor in music are required to take the following courses which constitute the Music Minor Core:

Required Music Theory (MUTH) Courses

MUTH 103 - Fundamentals of Music Semester Hours: Three †
MUTH 111 - Sight Singing/Ear Training I Semester Hours: One
MUTH 113 - Theory I Semester Hours: Three
MUTH 121 - Sight Singing/Ear Training II Semester Hours: One
MUTH 123 - Theory II Semester Hours: Three

Note

†Students who pass the theory placement test are not required to take this course, the hours do not count as a part of the minor.

Music History and Literature (MUHL) Courses

Take two courses totaling 6 hours to complete 6-hour upper division requirement or two courses totaling 5 hours plus at least 1 upper division hour from the Upper Division Options below.

MUHL 313 - Music History I Semester Hours: Three
MUHL 323 - Music History II Semester Hours: Three
MUHL 332 - Music History III Semester Hours: Two

Total: 5-6 Hours

Upper Division Options

Take a fifth Large Ensemble for upper division credit (must all be in the same ensemble)
Take a fifth Applied Lesson (Sophomore Proficiency required to receive upper division credit)
Take an upper division music course

Required Performance Areas

Students are required to take 4 semesters of Recital Attendance, 4 semesters of Applied Music Primary Lessons, and 4 hours of Large Ensemble.

MURA 110 - Recital Attendance Semester Hours: Zero (4 semesters)
MUA_ 111 - Applied Music Primary Semester Hours: Four
MU_L - Large Ensemble: Choral or Instrumental Semester Hours: Four
(first two semesters must be the same large ensemble)
