School of Health & Movement Sciences


Mission Statements

The School of Health & Movement Sciences at Missouri Baptist University is committed to promoting intellectual, spiritual, and professional development, striving to enhance a Christ-centered lifestyle through collaborative relationships and the advancement of knowledge. Areas of study include health sciences, exercise science, fitness management, and pre-professional studies. Each program prepares students for a professional vocation by applying a well-rounded, holistic approach to education from an evangelical Christian worldview.

Missouri Baptist University, through its School of Health & Movement Sciences, prepares students in a well-rounded, holistic approach to education from an evangelical Christian world-view. Students who major in one of the fields typically pursue careers in Allied Health, Corporate Fitness, Exercise Science/Technology or management of corporate or private fitness centers, recreation facilities, or sports clubs.  Additionally the department prepares students to enter graduate or professional schools in Sport Management, Exercise Science, Strength Training, Physical Therapy, Allied Health, Athletic Training, Occupational Training, Chiropractic, or Pharmaceuticals.

A student may major in Exercise Science or Health Sciences. Minors in Exercise Science and Public Health are also available. The School of Health & Movement Sciences also offers a graduate certificate in Exercise Science. Undergraduate students may earn credit toward the graduate certificates the Master of Science degree in Sport Management through senior permission.

Exercise Science: The Exercise Science program promotes the integration of Christian faith with the theory and practice of human movement, sport, and the prevention and rehabilitation needs of individuals.  Exercise Science majors learn how to positively influence the health and well-being of all individuals and advance the body of knowledge in their field.

Health Sciences:The Health Sciences program at Missouri Baptist University prepares students for various clinical and non-clinical health-related careers and/or graduate studies through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates faith and learning. Heath Sciences students learn to creatively promote and support a healthy lifestyle, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and become a positive influence on the health and well-being of others.

Exercise Science Major

For other degree options, the MBU undergraduate program in Exercise Science can lead to a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Chiropractic, or a Doctorate of Pharmaceutical Sciences.  For additional information about articulation agreements into professional academic programs, please visit  https://www.mobap.edu/pre-professional-degree-program/

Health Sciences Major

Students majoring in Health Science may not minor in Public Health, as all courses are required in the major. 

MBU Health Sciences majors are required to choose one of the following concentrations: Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Natural Sciences, and Psychology.

Public Health Minor

Students majoring in Health Science may not minor in Public Health, as all courses are required in the major.
