Mission Statement
The School of Management and Marketing programs prepare students to meet future business challenges and opportunities within a in a biblical, Christ-centered context. Being a student in the School of Management and Marketing means learning vital skills for the real-world marketplace, understanding foundational and contemporary business practices, and employing current technologies for the pursuit of professional endeavors. A School of Management and Marketing student experiences real-world research and real-world projects with faculty who are both academically and industry expertly qualified and focused on student career-readiness.
In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the College of Business and Entrepreneurship, School of Management and Marketing students choose from majors in several fields of study depending upon their interests and academic and professional goals. These majors are designed to position students to work effectively in today’s business environments, with a focus on developing the student’s ability to provide business solutions in a broad array of industries in alignment with economic principles of free enterprise and Biblical stewardship.
Majors in the School of Management and Marketing include:
Management: The Management program prepares students to lead with biblical integrity in their chosen industry, with an emphasis on foundational management practices that align with free enterprise in the global marketplace. Students are prepared for future professional careers in management roles with curriculum based on real-world industry expectations coupled with experiential learning opportunities from faculty with faith-based expertise.
Marketing: The Marketing program prepares students to explore and develop marketing competencies within a biblical framework that honors God’s design for business and economic exchange of good and services. Being a marketing student means learning foundational principles and real-world applications for connecting customers and firms through a Christ-centered curriculum. Students learn how contemporary marketing practice facilitates the economic exchange with real-world, practical, and biblically framed marketing strategies and skills for developing market leadership in their chosen industries.
Sports Management: The Sports Management program prepares students to undertake a variety of roles in the business of the sports industry and focuses on management and marketing principles in developing Christ-centered leaders in sports business fields. Students are prepared for business roles across the vast sports-related market landscape with a practical and hands-on curriculum for students to tailor their academic studies with their career goals.
Healthcare Management: The Healthcare Management program provides curriculum in management principles and concepts applicable in healthcare and healthcare industry environments. The curriculum is tied to industry expectations coupled with instruction from faculty with real-world experience who share their evangelical Christian-based knowledge and insights.
Other undergraduate academic programs offered by the School of Management and Marketing include Applied Management and Organizational Leadership. These programs are designed as degree completion programs that prepare students to meet a variety of challenges in today’s business marketplace, with an emphasis on Christian leadership and ethics.
Students may also pursue several minors in conjunction with major fields of study, including those offered by other MBU Colleges outside of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Students should consult with their advisers regarding minors early in their academic programs. In the School of Management and Marketing, the majors of Management, Marketing, Sports Management, and Healthcare Management include the Business Administration minor built into the curriculum of study.
Graduate Certificates
The School of Management and Marketing also offers several graduate certificates. Graduate Certificates may be earned in the fields of Healthcare Management, Human Resource Management, and Marketing. These certificates are stand-alone certificates and may not be earned concurrently with a master’s degree in the same discipline or track. Students who begin a certificate program and wish to switch to a master’s program must make application to the master’s program through the Graduate Admissions Office and submit all documentation for full admission. Classes may not be transferred in for the certificate programs, and students must complete the required twelve (12) hours through Missouri Baptist University.
Students returning to pursue a master’s degree after earning a certificate may transfer up to six (6) hours from their certificate program into the master’s program. Six (6) alternative hours will replace completed certificate classes. The student and advisor will decide on appropriate classes with the approval of the Associate Dean of the School of Management and Marketing and/or the Dean of the College of Business & Entrepreneurship.
The graduate certificates require a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to be granted.
