COUN 5313 - Counseling Children and Adolescents Semester Hours: THREE This course presents theories, techniques, and strategies for effectively counseling children and adolescents in clinical and school settings. The course covers legal and ethical concerns, socio-cultural considerations, and normal and abnormal cognitive, social, and emotional development and learning in children and adolescents. Topics covered include play therapy, sand tray therapy, bibliotherapy, art therapy, psychoeducation, and brief counseling techniques. Students will practice counseling techniques, design interventions, create informational materials covering mental health issues affecting youth, develop case conceptualizations and treatment plans, and develop crisis response plans specifically intended for children and adolescents.
