BCIS 103 - Survey of Computing Term Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer This course is an introductory survey of the field of computing, with emphasis on personal computing, and the Microsoft Windows environment. Students are introduced to a wide range of computer topics with the purpose of giving them an elementary understanding of computers as they impact everyday life. Topics include computers and their uses, the Internet, computer hardware and architecture, input/output devices, storage concepts and other relevant subject matter. Hands-on instruction is provided to train students in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite. A significant portion of class time will be spent in lab format where students will have the opportunity to learn by working through class assignments with the instructor available for guidance and assistance. Missouri Baptist University students have access to a free Microsoft Office license. This course satisfies the computer literacy requirement for all baccalaureate degree programs except the BME. For transfer credit to be equated to this course the transfer course must have been completed within seven (7) years prior to initial registration at Missouri Baptist University. Former MBU students who are readmitting into the University must also have completed BCIS 103 or its equivalent within seven (7) years prior to the first semester of returning registration.
