COMJ 433 - Opinion Writing Term Offered: Fall, Even Years This course examines the journalistic art and practice of writing to persuade an audience. In a setting that combines classroom and workshop, students will gain an understanding of concepts like opinion leadership, agenda setting, research, emotional appeal, analysis and feedback in developing methods for crafting sound written arguments for mass media. Learning Christian ethical opinion writing through application, students will write and edit columns, editorials, analyses, blogs and critical reviews of movies, music, books, video games and restaurants. Opinion articles published and posted through student media outlets will add important elements to students’ portfolios. Semester Hours: Three
