HCMG 313 - Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare Term Offered: Spring This course will examine the major legal and ethical issues in contemporary healthcare settings. It covers the legal issues surrounding the relationships of patients, providers, and healthcare systems. Focus is on corporate liability, medical malpractice, hospital processes, medical staff bylaws, informed consent, nursing, patients’ rights, medical records and governmental regulation of personnel and health facilities. Also considered are the social and ethical issues encountered in trying to balance the interests, needs and rights of individual citizens against those of society. Semester Hours: Three
