PSHU 343 - Disabilities: Theory and Practice Term Offered: Fall, Even Years This course will introduce students to several developmental disabilities, and a few acquired ones, often encountered while working in helping professions. Areas of emphasis will include a review of historical and theoretical perspectives, societal stereotypes, physical and emotional indicators, disability culture, real life experiences shared by individuals with disabilities, disability law, the development of support systems grounded in the strengths perspective, and use of the respectful person-first language.
