Subject-specific course requirements leading to a baccalaureate degree and/or a teaching certificate in Business Education, Biology Education, and Chemistry Education are listed with the School of Teacher Education majors.
Required Assessments
- Admission to Teacher Education Program: To be completed second semester of sophomore year (or first semester for students transferring as a second semester sophomore class rank or higher) in conjunction with EDUC 201 .
- MoGEA: 066, 067, & 068 ($59.00 for all subtests/$25.00 per single subtest)** or passing composite score on ACT, SAT, or Paraprofessional.
- Interview for admission to the Teacher Education Program
- Students may not enroll in 400-level education classes until the above assessment requirements for admission have been met.
- Approval to Student Teach: To be completed in the first semester of the senior year (or semester immediately preceding student teaching) with EDUC 401 .
- Interview for approval to student teach
- Completion of Professional Development Folio (PDF)
- Recommendation for Certification:
- Missouri Content Assessment (MoCA) for Biology: 075 - Biology - $73.00**
- Competency-based assessment to be completed during Student Teaching or EDCL 4700
- Passing composite score on the Missouri Educator Evaluation System (MEES) summative evaluation
** Assessments required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Fees are set by DESE and may be subject to change.
Note(s)
- At least six hours of major and three hours of minor must be earned at Missouri Baptist University.
- A grade of C or better (CR for zero credit classes) is required in courses taken to fulfill the requirements for a major or minor
- Courses listed within this major are considered professional education requirements by DESE; therefore, students must receive a grade of C or better (B or better for Gateway courses).
- The GPA for this program must be at least 3.000 and will include all courses listed in the major.
- If a substitution has been made, documentation of the signed approval and course number and title must be sent to the Records Office. Please include the date of the submission.
- At least 24 of the last 32 hours must be taken at Missouri Baptist University to meet residency requirements.
- Major GPA 3.000 or better.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale is required for degree conferral. Program GPA must be 3.000 or better for degree conferral and certification. Students must meet all requirements for certification before this degree will be conferred.
- (Students who have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale may graduate with just their content area major if they do not meet all requirements for certification.)
- At least 42 total hours of Upper Division (54 for dual degree).
- At least 120 total credit hours (144 for dual degree).
* Available for graduate credit through Senior Permission.
^Teacher Education Program Gateway course – requires a grade of B or better (may be repeated once)
† Requires enrollment in EDAS WM7 Watermark 7-Year License as co-requisite/pre-requisite.
Students need to make an appointment with their assigned School of Teacher Education advisor (see myMBU Access) or the Director of Teacher Education Certification Advising during the first semester of their junior year for a graduation check.
