School of Business


Mission Statements

School of Business: In accordance with the mission statement of Missouri Baptist University, the School of Business provides major programs to prepare students for lifelong learning while pursuing their calling to serve in professional careers and studies. The School of Business programs promote Biblically-based Christian business practices. The major programs accomplish this mission through curriculum tied to industry expectations coupled with instruction in the ethical, Biblical Christian philosophy, and diversity principles which serve the basis of society and economy. The pedagogical emphasis is on the application of critical thinking for innovative approaches to solving business problems. Students are encouraged to engage in networking with students, faculty, and professionals to make career choices that honor God’s calling. 

Accounting: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the accounting program prepares students for the ethical and professional practice of accounting from a Biblically-based Christian perspective. Students are taught the foundational knowledge and skills of accounting along with the current technologies being applied in the field to meet business needs.

Applied Management: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the Applied Management program provides a flexible curriculum. The curriculum is taught by faculty with real-world experience who share their faith-based knowledge and insights.

Business Administration: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the Business Administration program prepares students to identify business needs, problems, and opportunities and apply relevant solutions from a Biblically-based Christian perspective. Students will learn foundational business knowledge and skills in the curriculum with flexibility to specialize. 

Cybersecurity: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the Information Technology program provides a curriculum from a Christian worldview with strong core technical knowledge in the specialization of Cybersecurity.  We are committed to providing a high-quality education that stresses a Christ-centered excellence in scholarship and ethical application of cybersecurity skills to develop tomorrow’s cybersecurity leaders. The goal is to prepare students to meet the business information security challenges that are constantly changing as cyber-crime advances.

Healthcare Management: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of business, the Healthcare Management program provides curriculum in management principles and concepts applicable in healthcare and healthcare industry environments. The curriculum is tied to industry expectations coupled with instruction from faculty with real-world experience who share their evangelical Christian-based knowledge and insights. 

Management: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the Management program provides a broad-based curriculum preparing students for professional careers in management. MBU prepares students to become successful managers through curriculum tied to industry expectations coupled with real-world experience who share their faith-based knowledge and insights. The instruction faculty provides enables students to shine bright and make a positive impact on their world. 

Marketing: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the marketing program prepares students to explore and develop marketing competencies to meet future business challenges and opportunities in a biblical, Christ-centered context. Being a marketing student at MBU means learning vital skills for the real-world marketplace, understanding the foundations of marketing practice and learning about current technologies. A marketing student experiences real-world research and real-world projects.

Network Engineering: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the Network Engineering program provides a curriculum to prepare students to meet the challenges of business technology needs from a Christian worldview. The faculty are committed to providing high-quality education, technological skills, and fundamental core concepts of network engineering to successfully support the constant change within the business environment. Faculty are dedicated to preparing students based on a spiritual foundation to be in the forefront of a rapidly changing industry.

Organizational Leadership: In accordance with the mission of Missouri Baptist University and the School of Business, the organizational leadership program prepares students in management and leadership knowledge and skills to meet future business challenges from a Biblically-based Christian perspective. The curriculum is taught by faculty with real-world experience who share their faith-based knowledge and insights. Through a broad-based curriculum tied to industry expectations, students are prepared for professional careers. 

Overview

The School of Business offers majors and minors in Accounting, Applied Management, Business Administration, Cybersecurity, Healthcare Management, Management, Marketing, Network Engineering, and Organizational Leadership. 

Admission Requirements
The School of Business requires a minimum standard of academic performance for acceptance into the School of Business for any major in business, except applied management. Specifically:

Freshmen: Student must have a high school cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale and an ACT score of 20. Transfers: Student must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA.

Students not meeting the admission requirement may be immediately accepted into the applied management major. Students wishing to be admitted into the other business majors will be allowed to present a written request for acceptance to the Dean of the School of Business after at least one full semester of study at MBU if the cumulative 2.5 GPA requirement has been met. A 2.5 cumulative grade point average is required for graduation.

Requirements for Second Majors 
Students wishing to earn a second major or dual degree within the School of Business must complete all of the requirements for both majors and may not count elective courses toward more than one major within the School of Business. Third majors are not allowed.

School of Business Internships
Internship opportunities are available to School of Business majors and minors in the areas of Accounting, Business Administration, Information Technology, Management, and Marketing. Students must have completed coursework in the internship field prior to enrolling in this course. Students will be exposed to real world experiences in a specific field of business. Variable credit may be taken in different field settings, not to exceed a combined total of six hours. See the course description under each field for more information.

4+1 Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Business Administration to Master of Business Administration

Missouri Baptist University offers an accelerated program for students to complete their Master of Business Administration (MBA) at an accelerated rate. Upon completion of their four-year undergraduate program, students can complete their MBA in one year. Undergraduate students will complete 6 credit hours of senior permission courses from their core curriculum. These senior permission courses will contribute to the student’s graduate coursework. The student will then take two semesters at 12 credit hours each and one summer semester at 6 credit hours to complete their MBA within the year.
