Mission Statements
The School of Health & Movement Sciences at Missouri Baptist University is committed to promoting intellectual, spiritual, and professional development, striving to enhance a Christ-centered lifestyle through collaborative relationships and the advancement of knowledge. Areas of study include health sciences, exercise science, and pre-professional studies. Each program prepares students for a professional vocation by applying a well-rounded, holistic approach to education from an evangelical Christian worldview.
Missouri Baptist University, through its School of Health & Movement Sciences, prepares students in a well-rounded, holistic approach to education from an evangelical Christian world-view. Students who major in one of the fields typically pursue careers in Allied Health, Corporate Fitness, Exercise Science/Technology or management of corporate or private fitness centers, recreation facilities, or sports clubs. Additionally, the department prepares students to enter graduate or professional schools in Sport Management, Exercise Science, Strength Training, Physical Therapy, Allied Health, Athletic Training, Occupational Training, Chiropractic, or Pharmaceuticals.
A student may major in Exercise Science or Health Sciences. Minors in Exercise Science and Public Health are also available. The School of Health & Movement Sciences also offers a graduate certificate in Exercise Science. Undergraduate students may earn credit toward the graduate certificates the Master of Science degree in Sport Management through senior permission. Exercise Science: The Exercise Science program promotes the integration of Christian faith with the theory and practice of human movement, sport, and the prevention and rehabilitation needs of individuals. Exercise Science majors learn how to positively influence the health and well-being of all individuals and advance the body of knowledge in their field.
Health Sciences: The Health Sciences program at Missouri Baptist University prepares students for various clinical and non-clinical health-related careers and/or graduate studies through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates faith and learning. Heath Sciences students learn to creatively promote and support a healthy lifestyle, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and become a positive influence on the health and well-being of others.

For other degree options, the MBU undergraduate program in Exercise Science can lead to a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Chiropractic, or a Doctorate of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Bachelor of Science in Health Science to Master of Public Health (MPH) 4+1 Program
Missouri Baptist University’s 4+1 BS to MPH program provides a streamlined pathway for high-achieving Health Science majors to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and a Master of Public Health in just five years. Students pursuing the Public Health concentration within the undergraduate Health Science major may apply to take up to four of the following cross-listed graduate-level public health courses for graduate credit: Community Health (HSCI 413/513 ), Epidemiology (HSCI 483/583 ), Health Disparities (HSCI 433/533 ), Environmental Health (HSCI 443/543 ), and Ethics and Current Issues in Public Health (HSCI 463/563 ). Upon successful completion of the undergraduate degree and these graduate credits, students can complete the remaining MPH coursework in just one additional year.
Graduate Certificates
A graduate certificate may be earned in the field of Exercise Science. This certificate is a stand-alone certificate and may not be earned concurrently with a master’s degree in the same discipline or track. Students who begin a certificate program and wish to switch to a master’s program must make application to the master’s program through the Graduate Admissions Office and submit all documentation for full admission. Classes may not be transferred in for the certificate programs, and students must complete the required twelve (12) hours through Missouri Baptist University.
Students returning to pursue a master’s degree after earning a certificate may transfer up to six (6) hours from their certificate program into the master’s program. Six (6) alternative hours will replace completed core classes. The student and advisor will decide on appropriate classes with the approval of the Dean of the College of Science and Health.
The graduate certificates require a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to be granted.
