BIOL 333 - Plant Physiology Semester Hours: Three This course will address the relationship between the form and function of plants. The interplay of morphology, anatomy and metabolism as it relates to their role in the growth and development of plants will be among the topics covered. Fundamental principles of plant physiology concerning photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and water movement, translocation, secondary metabolite synthesis, and developmental stages will be presented. As a natural consequence of this approach, applied topics describing how plant processes affect yield and the nutritional quality of food crops, and how plants respond to and survive in various environments, will be investigated. This course will provide students with the knowledge of plant physiology necessary to prepare them for the further study of plant development, metabolism and biochemistry required to understand the plant biotechnology industry. This class will be valuable for those interested in going into research and for those with a greater interest in the practical uses of plants as a food source and for beautifying the environment.
