ELED 453/553 - Integrated Language Arts Concepts and Children’s Literature for Early Childhood/Elementary: Seminar and Field Experience Term Offered: Fall, Spring Semester Hours: Three This course equips teacher candidates with the ability to investigate developmental and evidence-based frameworks that promote reading fluency, vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and writing instruction. The course will emphasize the foundation of elementary writing processes, orthographic knowledge, and instructional approaches that support writing specific text types and producing writing appropriate to tasks. The course will also position candidates to critically examine elementary literacy curricula and situate diversity as a core asset in instructional planning, teaching, and selecting texts and materials. This approach ensures a coherent and motivating literacy program that addresses both general and discipline-specific literacy processes. A field experience is included in the scope of this course. Note: Students taking this course for graduate credit must complete all graduate course requirements.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 203 , EDUC 303 , ECSP 433/533 , EDRD 433/533 , and admission to the Teacher Education Program.
