BIOL 373N - Essentials of Microbiology Term Offered: Spring, Summer Semester Hours: Three An introductory study of microorganisms with a focus on their impact on human health and disease. The course will cover the basic principles for understanding microbial growth, function, and control. This includes a survey of bacterial cellular structure/functions, viruses, metabolism, and genetics. Students will also explore the processes of infection of bacterial and viral diseases, epidemiology, infectious disease treatment, and an introduction to the body’s immune defenses. Intended for students not majoring in the biological sciences. Prerequisite(s): A laboratory course in Biology Corequisite(s): BIOL 371N
