EDRD 443/543 - Analysis and Correction of Reading Disabilities Term Offered: Fall, Spring Semester Hours: Three Course participants will explore and apply assessment techniques designed to describe and recognize broad subtypes of reading difficulty. Candidates will develop an understanding of the purposes, strengths, and limitations of various literacy assessments. Emphasizing the understanding, selection, and use of appropriate literacy assessments, candidates will gather evidence of elementary students’ literacy development to interpret and explain student learning and design targeted interventions. Candidates will examine state legislation and state-mandated assessments to understand how these factors influence instructional decision-making, ensuring compliance and effective practice in literacy instruction. Additionally, candidates will explore using data ethically to inform instruction and communicate with families and colleagues. A field experience is included in the scope of this course. This course cannot be taken as a Directed Study. Note: Students taking this course for graduate credit must complete all graduate course requirements.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 203 , EDUC 303 , ECTA 323 , ECSP 433/533 , EDRD 433/533 , ELED 453/553 , and for candidates seeking initial teacher certification.
